First Time Voter
I’m somewhat embarassed to admit it, but this year, 2008, was the first year since I have been old enough to vote that I have actually done so. Some may say it is because of Barack Obama and his call for change, and some may say that it is because of the state of the economy of our country. I say it was because for the first time in my life, I feel that something drastic needs to be done or our great nation is going to fall flat on it’s face.
I have to admit that I was a bit nervous going to the polls for the first time. I’ve never taken this responsibility very seriously before, and I realized that I did not have near enough knowledge of the candidates to make a very educated decision come election day. I studied up on Mr. Obama, as well as Mr. McCain, and I also took a look at the other, smaller parties running for office. Come November 4th, I felt much more prepared to do my civic duty.
The actual process of voting was relatively quick and easy, for me. I had preregistered through www.rockthevote.com and I think that is a great website! I walked in, showed my registration card I had received in the mail, and went to the booth. It took me about five minutes total, and when I was done, I simply placed my ballot in the ballot machine and headed back out to my car. I think I will vote every election from now on…
